If you've been keeping up with the latest health studies, researchers at Princeton University found that high fructose corn syrup causes rats to gain weight when the same amount (caloric) of sucrose did not. This is important for all of us soda drinkers. HFCS is the sweetener in most sodas presently. It was used as a replacement sweetener. Back in the old days, soda was made with real sugar. Some still are. For instance, Pepsi makes "Throwbacks" which are great. Also, there are Mountain Dew Throwbacks. Additionally, Jones Cola is made with pure sugar cane. Jones is pretty dang good.
My favorite soft drink has always been Dr. Pepper. I found out about 7 years ago that the original Dr. Pepper manufacturer still makes it with pure sugar cane. I didn't think to look for it till today. It's available online, although after shipping it's a bit expensive.

A case is $10, plus it's $5 shipping for each package. A package can contain up to two cases. So, for $25 you could get two cases (48 drinks). That's right at $0.50 each, which really isn't that bad compared to sodas out of a vending machine. To bad they don't have them at a store nearby. I'd buy as many as I could fit in the car.
